The last phrase in Romans 12:16 says, “…Do not be wise in your own opinion.” That takes me back to Proverbs 3:7. It is a verse I declare to the Lord like this every day. “I delight to not be wise in my own eyes, but to fear You, and depart from doing anything in my own strength.”
The verse says, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.” Look at the promise in verse 8. It says, “It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”
As I think about the word opinion, I can hear my dad say, “Convince a woman against her will, she will be of the same opinion still.”
We know from Colossians 3:3 that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him. In James 1:5 He bids us to ask Him for wisdom, and He will give it to us freely. Opinions come from our own perspective of things. His wisdom allows us to see our life’s circumstances through His perspective ~ eternal wisdom.
