Mystery Revealed ~ Part Two

Strong’s says that the biblical Greek word mystery means truth revealed. God hid His plans from the rulers of this world. 1 Corinthians 2:8 says, “…had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”

Jesus’ disciples asked Him why He spoke in parables. Matthew 13:11 says, “…Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.”

1 Peter 1:10 says that the prophets searched diligently. Verse 11 says, “Searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.”

He revealed to them that it was to us not them. For example, Daniel 12:9 says, “…Go your way Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed tell the time of the end.” We live in His revealed truth.

Mystery Revealed ~ Part One

The mystery that Paul wrote about in Colossians 1:27 is not like the word we use. There are many mysteries that remain unsolved in human experiences. In verses 25-26 Paul wrote about the ministry God called him to.

The ministry to the Gentiles was given to him to fulfill the word of God. Verse 26 says, “The mystery which has been  hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.”

This mystery was hidden in God’s heart all along. Verse 27 says, “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

1 Corinthians 2:7-8 says, “But we speak the wisdom of God in  a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory. which none of the rulers of this age knew…”

Finite Equals Dependence~Part Three

Again we will use Paul as an example. He had a hard trial. He pleaded with the Lord three times to remove his thorn in the flesh. The Lord did not answer that prayer. Instead He empowered Paul with these words. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “…My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness…”

Paul got it. He wrote, “…Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” A humble heart is the inward acknowledgement of our dependence on the Lord.

Ephesians 3:16 Amplified says, “May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the (Holy) Spirit (Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality).”

Ephesians 1:19-20 says that His mighty power in us is the resurrection power God used to raise Jesus from the dead. Hallelujah!

Finite Equals Dependent~Part Two

Our hard trials are a present reminder of how dependent we are. No matter what we go through, our flesh suffers. 2 Corinthians 4:16 says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.”

Verses 17-18 says that our light afflictions are working for us, if we do not focus on what is temporary. Rather we are to focus on eternal things. Paul is an excellent example for us. He chose to rejoice in his sufferings.

His rejoicing was rooted in the truth of Christ’s suffering. As Christ suffered in His flesh, so we suffer in our physical bodies. 2 Corinthians 4:10 says, “Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” How does that work? Depending on Him in every aspect of our lives.

Finite Equals Dependent~Part One

There is only One we are to depend on. Let John 15:5 be emblazoned on our hearts. Apart from Him we can do nothing. Yet Paul boldly proclaimed, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13.

We often fall into the trap of self-dependence. It always ends in disaster. I started to memorize Colossians 1:24. Paul wrote, “I now rejoice in my sufferings for you…” He wrote this to a church he did not start. He loved the folks there because of their faith, their love for others, their hope, and their fruit.

He reminded them in verse 21 that they were once alienated and enemies in their minds. Yet Jesus gave His fleshly body as a sacrifice. He suffered in His flesh to bear the sins of the world. Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…”

God Is Unequaled

I love Isaiah 40. I encourage you to read it. I review it when I start to lose perspective. Verse 12 says, “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, measured heaven with a span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?’

Verse 18 says, “To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him? Verse 23 says, “He brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless.”

Verse 25 says, “To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal? says the Holy One.” Verse 28 says, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”

Verse 29’s promise, “He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength.”

God Is All Powerful

This truth is amplified in Psalm 2:4 which says of those who oppose Him. “He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord shall hold them in derision.” I have this verse taped to my refrigerator door to pray. Psalm 33:10 says, “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.”

1 Corinthians 15:28 says, “Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.”

The earth that He created, and all the things man has added over the years are in His hands. 2 Peter 3:10-11 says, “…both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved…” Verse 14 says, “…be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless.”

God Is All Knowing

Our God knows all things. There is nothing in our lives that He is not aware of. If you have hidden sin, let this verse be an awakening. Hebrews 4:13 Amplified says, “And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.”

Proverbs 28:13 says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” According to Psalm 103:10, mercy is not getting what we deserve.

We may sin against others, but in truth we have sinned against God. David’s words come from a heart that was convicted. He tried to hide his sin with Bathsheba, but the Lord’s eyes saw it all.

Psalm 51:4 says, “Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight…”

Recall All Things

Here is my online devotional that posted today.

Recall All Things
September 16 2024, Written By Marilyn Adams
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.John 14:26
In 1983 I took a written test for a bookkeeping position. I was really surprised when it asked for a definition of terms. I had learned them when I was in high school, but had never used them in the workplace.

Knowing that the Holy Spirit can recall all things, I asked Him to help me answer each of the questions. He brought back to my mind the things that I had studied 17 years prior.

No matter what situation we are in, the Holy Spirit is present to help us. He will bring Scripture to our mind when we ask him to help us with a decision. He will recall the truth from his Word that will stop us from embracing a temptation. In our time of fear or distress, he will recall a verse which will calm our mind.

At the moment that we receive Jesus as our personal Savior, we are given the Holy Spirit of God to live in us forever. He is our helper, comforter, teacher, and guide.

Paul instructed his readers in Galatians 5:16. It says, “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Our flesh hates the word of God. When we hide it in our hearts, the Holy Spirit will bring it to our minds. That instant recall will effectively protect us from the devil’s hidden traps.

Father, I am so grateful that you gave me the gift of your Holy Spirit. Help me to always follow his leading, so I do not get blindsided and derailed with hidden fleshly lures. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Throughout this day: Take some time to pray about a situation that is concerning you, and specifically ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind what God’s Word says about it. If you realize that you need to get more of his Word into your heart, ask him how and where to start.

Upheld By God

We are included as He upholds all things. Psalm 63:8 Amplified is one of my anchor verses. It says, “My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.”

That takes me to Isaiah 41:10. If you haven’t memorized it yet, I encourage you to do so. It says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Psalm 104:5 says, “You who laid the foundations of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever.”

In Job 38 God asked Job some questions. Verse 4 says, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.” Verse 6 says, “To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone.” If you ever question God’s ways in your life, read Job 38-42:2.
