Inexpressible Joy

1 Peter 1:8-9 says, “Whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.”

Here is the promise for the end of our faith. Jude verse 24 says, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” The Amplified says, “…in triumphant joy and exultation (with unspeakable, ecstatic delight).”

Here is a challenge for us all during our trials. Hebrews 10:34 says, “…and joyfully accepted the plundering of your goods, knowing that you have a better and an enduring possession for yourselves in heaven.”

Are you singing, “This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through…” or are you bemoaning what was consumed in your fiery trial?

Extravagant Joy

2 Samuel 6 was another record of King David as they brought the ark to Jerusalem. Verse 14 says, “Then David danced before the Lord with all his might…” Such an expression of extravagant joy. It literally means spinning around.

David’s heart was all in. In Psalm 86:12 David wrote, “I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore.”

Here is part of a new song called Extravagant Oil of Joy. With joy I lift my heart in song. A song that flows through me like a river. A song that cascades and rushes to be expressed. In pure worship knowing Your joy as You behold me.

O the wonder. The marvelous wonder and awe. All my sins are cleansed in the power of Your blood. Let my joy be a fragrance that delights Your heart O God. An extravagant oil poured upon Your feet in worship.

Sing A New Song! Part Two

For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth.

Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously.”

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.”

Sing A New Song! Part One

I started to memorize Psalm 96. Verse 1 says, “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord all the earth.” Then I looked at a note in my Bible. This psalm comes from David’s psalm in 1 Chronicles 16:8-36.

Let me set the stage for you. 1 Chronicles 15:28 says that King David and all Israel, “…brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn, with trumpets and with cymbals, making music with stringed instruments and harps.”

Verse 29 says that King David was whirling and playing music. As I am repeating verse 1 over and over, I am picturing this great assembly of praise. Psalm 96 is so jubilant with heartfelt worship.

It says, “Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.

The Path Of Humility Is Strewn With Grace

How is the path you are walking on? Proverbs 13:15 Amplified says, “Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard (like the barren, dry soil or the impassable swamp).”

Here is the result of humility or pride. Proverbs 10:17 Amplified says, “He who heeds instruction and correction is (not only himself) in the way of life (but also) is a way of life for others. And he who neglects or refuses reproof (not only himself) goes astray (but also) causes to error and is a path toward ruin for others.”

What derails us? Our pride! I love James 3:13 in the Amplified. It says, “Who is there among you who is wise and intelligent? Then let him by his noble living show forth his (good) works with the (unobtrusive) humility (which is the proper attribute) of true wisdom.” The moment we fall into pride, we walk away from grace-provision.

Are You Needy?

A note in my Bible captured my attention. In Psalm 70:5 David wrote, “But I am poor and needy; make haste to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay.”

The Hebrew word for needy is ebyon. Matthew 11:5 says, “…the poor have the gospel preached to them.” Note: One of the earliest groups of Jewish followers of Jesus adopted the name Ebionites that is ‘the poor ones.’

Matthew 5:3 says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” When we acknowledge our spiritual poverty, we are able to cast aside our independence (humility) and receive His grace.

James 4:6 says, “…God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Verse 10 says to humble ourselves. Our fleshly independence separates us from God’s grace. When we cry out to Him, our heart is acknowledging our need for the only One who can help us.

The Power Of Crying Out~Part Two

We cry out because we have One who always hears. Psalm 16:6 says, “I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God…” Psalm 34:17 says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.”

In Psalm 55:17, David wrote, “Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice.” Psalm 18:6 says, “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears.”

I love these verses. Crying out comes from a heart that knows unless the Lord intervenes, there is no hope. Psalm 61:1 says, “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You…” Are you in desperate straits? Cry out! We demonstrate where our trust is when we cry out.

The Power Of Crying Out~Part One

There is only One who is always attentive. Not one iota of our lives is outside of the Lord’s attention. I wrote this to a mentee: Here is a good definition for a mental rut ~ falling into the same negative thought patterns that keep us stuck.

Case in point. You wrote, “But the fear part of me is still around…” That is rut thinking. We fall into that pattern of spiraling down the moment we are triggered.

Psalm 66:18 says, “If I regard  iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.” Proverbs 4:23 is great admonishment. We need to diligently guard our hearts from falling into the ruts of self-reliance, self-effort, or doing things in our own strength. It is sin.

Psalm 119:147 says, “I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your word.” Read this cry. Daniel 9:19 says, “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act!…”

14!

14 bloomed last night to an audience of One. Today they will be spectacular for all who see them. I am reminded of Luke 19:40. It says, “…I tell you that is these would keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” These 14 beauties are worshiping their Creator.

God: Our Stronghold

I love David’s heartfelt words in Psalm 18:1-3. It says, “I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”

In Psalm 34:6 David wrote, “This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”

Our developing relationship with the Lord deepens as we continually lean on Him. Psalm 107:6, 13, 19, and 28 all have one thing in common. In each type of distress, they cried out to the Lord.

In 2 Chronicles 15:10 Asa was in trouble. He cried out to the Lord ~ marvelously delivered. Yet, in the end of his life he turned to man. 16:12 says “…he did not seek the Lord…”
