2 Peter 1:4 says, “By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakes of the divine nature…” We are called to participate with Him as His image bearers.
Hebrews 1:3 says, “Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person…” The Greek word for express image is charakter. How do we do that? When we are offended we respond with grace.
I like to think of it this way. We come in the opposite spirit. Proverbs 15:1 is a great example. It says, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Another one of my favorites is Proverbs 25:15 in the Amplified. It says, “By long forbearance and calmness of spirit a judge or ruler is persuaded, and soft speech breaks down the most bone-like resistance.”
Quarreling doesn’t work. It is a futile battle of flesh against flesh. James 3:14 says, “But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.”
