Diligence is an essential character quality. One that the Lord works into our lives through our trials. 1 Peter 1:7 says, “That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire…”
Trials purify our faith. 2 Peter 1:4 says that through God’s promises we become partakers of His nature. Verse 5-7 says, “But also for this reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.”
Diligence is the opposite of casual or indifference. At salvation we are given a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 says, “…to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”
Ephesians 4:29 says that our words are to build others up, “….that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Hiding God’s word in our heart indues our words with grace and wholesomeness.
