The Thinking Heart~Part Two

Proverbs 27:19 says, “As in water face reflects face, so a man’s heart reveals the man.” Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” Self- deception can be a blind spot.

James 1:23-24 uses the illustration of a mirror. A mirror can reflect our face, but it doesn’t reveal our heart. God’s word does. Psalm 15 is a template. Verse 2 says, “He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.”

Listen to what you say to yourself. Are you speaking truth, or are your words derogatory? Are you expressing gratitude, or murmuring complaints? Matthew 12:34 says that our words come from the overflow of our heart.

Psalm 119:10 says, “With my whole heart I have sought You; oh, let me not wander from Your commandments.” A good way to discipline our heart is through memorizing and meditating on His word. It helps to hone our thoughts towards righteousness.

2 Timothy 1:7 says that we are given a sound mind. That is a mind with disciplined, well ordered thought patterns.
