Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.”
Isaiah 53:4 says, “Sure He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”
He alone has the power and ability to carry our burdens. We become battle weary when we carry a burden that is not ours to carry. He knows every hidden burden in our heart because He already bore it.
Hebrews 4:15 says, “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
That is why He bids us to come to Him and exchange our heavy burden. His burden is light when we are yoked to His will.
Matthew 11:29-31 says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
I love Hebrews 4:9-10 which gives a great definition for true rest. It says, “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from His works as God did from His.”
This acrostic spells out the simplicity of rest:
